Generally speaking, food in Paris was costly. Eating out could easily cost you EUR20-30/person.
We had our very first decent meal in Paris at La Coupole, a very well know restaurant with long history.
A friend recommended it to me and just so happened we walked by it while exploring our neighborhood. Jet lagged and couldn't think much we starred at our menu for like 10 minutes, then the server came to see if we needed help.
This gentleman, probably in his 50's, is a very professional person. He suggested certain things for us and we knew it would cost us way more than a EUR25 set meal.
When the bill came, it was EUR117.80. We were expecting somewhere around EUR90 but it was more than that. Oh well...you pay more when you don't think. But that was just a bit too much for a lunch though.
Anyway, what we had was escargot, steak that came with a gratin, lamb chop (I think) for hubby. They were all good really. But not to the extend that I'd still remember how they tasted like.
Blame it on the jet lag and the rainny weather! heehee
After this very first decent meal we decided to read the menu by ourselves. And we tried to stay with set menu to not let our greedy mind blow our wallet. hahaha
Food related expenses still ended up high, as expected. I believe it almost leveled with the cost of our flight tickets! But since I (we) love eating so much, that was a fair trade.
One thing though, people kept telling us how great French food is but for the prices we paid, I think I was a little bit disappointed. Maybe we should have walked into a 3 stars bistro to try the real thing, but I don't think this is how things should be done. Maybe next time, I'll do more research on the delicious but cheap eats. ブログランキングやってま～す、よろしくお願いします！
