My sister bought me some dried conch while I was in Hong Kong.

Came back a bit tired and thought I should make myself some soup.

So made this really sweet soup the other day. Hubbie loved it.

Dried conch x 2
Apple x 1
Carrot x 1.5
Pork x 500g
Boiling water 2.5 litre

I don't know why we only think of French pastry when we mention desserts. Well maybe sometimes Italian and Japanese sweets.

But then we all know Japanese sweets originated from Chinese sweets and there must be some interesting Chinese sweets out there that we don't know much about.

Speaking of Chinese sweets, there are a few that I quite like. This time I was lucky to have brought home some "Dragon Beard Candy" from the airport in Hong Kong.

"Dragon Beard Candy" is something invented 2000+ years ago. If you take a closer look at it, it consists of thousands of thin maltose threads wrapping around peanuts, sugar and coconut.

20070427101808.jpg

The ingredients used are not very fancy, but that particular chef from 2000+ years ago must be really skillful and smart to have come up with this idea!

French pastry doesn't even have a 2000+ year history! It's just sad that Chinese sweets aren¡Çt developing fast enough to restore its prestige worldwide.

This is one of the restaurants that I'd go everytime I'm in Hong Kong.

They opened a new shop across from the old one recently. This one with fancy decorations, a rather big contrast compared to the original shops.

I like almost everything they serve there. Not just the crab itself, minor as a vegetable stir fry to the very well flavored fish congee, all of them are very delicious.

The best bet is to go there with a small group of 5-6 people so that you can try more different things. Otherwise, just the crab itself would cost you 400bucks! Not to mention the portion itself!

I got lucky the owner's daughter remembered me so I got a few bottles of the special seasoning they use in the crab stir fry. I can possibly make some fry prawns with it here!

Writing all these is making me hungry again...

It was a very fattening 3 week trip. And happened to be a very CHINESE food oriented trip through out.

I spent the very first week in Macau and had the chance to go to Gong Bei and Guang Zhou. All I could say is the quality of food in Macau, and Mainland China is really catching up. The best meal I had was probably in the Casino in Macau. Other than that, probably in Gong Bei.

Other than the food, I did spend a lot of quality time with my family and friends. Had many good conversations and got inspired by some.

As for the food report, it'd take me a while to put them together one by one. At the mean time, do CLICK HERE to see the pictures first. (^^)b

I'm finally back home from my trip!

It was only about 3 weeks but it felt like a long trip. I could have just stayed behind without coming back. heehee

Gained 3kg in 3 weeks. Too much food but it was really unavoidable.

Guess my first project now is to lose that weight and to start packing for Boston.

Report on my trip would be on next. (^^)b

2007.04.15 Hong Kong
Finally arrived in Hong Kong. Time is limited and there are lots of family and friends to meet.

Busy but have been sleeping well. Air in Hong Kong is better than Macau somehow.

Eat, eat, eat, and eat! Gaining weight!!!
2007.04.07 Ukishima in Macau
Ukishima is now in Macau.

Weather today is foggy, about 13 degrees. Not the best weather but still ok.

Will be in Macau for the week before heading to Hong Kong.
