Crunch Crisp
You like Crunch, and you like Coffee Crisp, now they put them together (well not exactly with coffee flavor) and made it Crunch Crsip!!! (><)/
I tried it, it was ok but still like Crunch better. But for those who like Coffee Crsip this would be a new alternative.

It was soooooooooo hot today! 31degree doesn't sound very bad but when the air is still it feels like you're walking in the sauna room!
I started working on one of my missions today: going to the gym and start working out. The gym of hubby's school is just more than professional! Since it's still summer there weren't too many students around and we took our time trying out different things (I'm sure I'll wake up with a major muscle pain tomorrow morning!!).
In Japan it's the norm to cost about 10000-20000yen to join a fitness club, but here with hubby's student status, I can get in for as little as under USD20/month! With 2 swimming pools and indoor courts and other facilities I'll try to stick with exercising to fix my back pain. (At least before it gets cold anyway!
)

In Japan you get meat all sliced and packaged when you shop at supermarkets. But here we get blocks of meat and can pick different kinds of meat for different purposes.
I got some shank meat (I'm not sure whether it's how you say it) and sliced it for a stir fry. Since string beans are now in season, I got some and fried them together. Add a little bit of oyster sauce and other seasonings.
It's true that it takes longer to cook now cuz' I need to slice meat from a whole block.

It was my birthday yesterday.
Hubby was sweet enough to get me some flowers. =)
What we did yesterday was actually quite meaningful!
We rented a van from U-Haul and moved furnitures to our place from a Japanese household who's moving back to Japan end of this month.
Due to my silly mistake, I changed my rental froma 10 feet truck to a small van, so the queen size bed wouldn't fit with the rest of the things and we had to make 2 trips. But thanks to Kawahara-san things went smooth.
Oh and driving was fun! Boston is not that difficult though they all say the drivers in Boston are the worst in the USA.
Anyway, after we moved everything and rested for a bit, we went out for dinner at Victoria. Had some nice Chinese food and then Take (Kawahara-san) treated us some wine & cheese at his place.
A very good way to celebrate a brithday!

So you think these shopping carts look really out of fashion and only older people use them? Not the case here in Boston. Since not everybody has a car here a lot of younger people do go shopping with carts like this!
We got this from the supermarket we went to and didn't realize it was so big. (It looked small in the shop) But then I guess it would be a good size for shopping every 1 or 2 weeks.

We were walking around the Beacon Hill area trying to find Ally McBeal's office for a picture. But somehow I couldn't get back to the exact location where the tour guide told us so instead we just walked around the beautiful neighborhood.
Got hungry so we walked into this pizzeria. The open kitchen and everything made it looked really good and fresh. And how the chef would roll out their doughs by the window really get your attention (mine too!).
So we went inside and order 2 slices. Mine was sun dried tomato and artichoke. Hubby ordered cheese. Well they only have 2 different kinds for ordering by the slice that's why we had them. But if you were ordering by the whole thing there would be many more choices.
Taste wise it was ok. Thin crust type which I liked but not hubby. And the chef was kind enough to pose for my picture too.
Overall it was ok. A bit overrated by the Boston Magazine as "Best of Boston" 2005 and 2006 maybe. But perhaps the freshly baked ones would be much better. Would have to find out!

It was when we went for brunch at a neighborhood cafe by the hotel 2 weeks ago. We both ordered a hamburger and then while we were eating hubby burst out this funny comment.
"Rather than eating FOOD, it tastes more like a THING!"
Apparently he didn't like it. Oh well we finished it anyway.
And then yesterday I said the same thing to him.
For lunch, I made fried rice with eggs, Angus Beef sirloin steak, and stir fried some water crest.
First of all, the eggs in the fried rice didn't give any flavor of eggs. And the steak was close to tasteless. I suppose the water crest was the only thing that had a normal flavor to it.
I then said to my husband.
"Do you think we're just eating simulated food? Or do you think the food in Japan is genetically altered so that they all have a richer flavor?"
That I think was a really good question. You never know you see. Maybe I was right! Maybe meat is not supposed to have such rich flavor?!
Anyway, I'm confused.
Let's change the topic and talk about a little incident that confused me even more when we had brunch at that cafe.
When we ordered our hamburgers, the lady asked us "how do you want it done?"
Please excuse my lack of knowledge, but according to what I know, hamburger patties are made from ground beef and there is a much higher rish of getting food poisoning if not cooked thoroughly. Well, unless they are making the patti from a grilled sirloin steak right on the spot, otherwise, I would still consider it unsafe to order it anything other than well done.
Do any of you order your burger "medium"?
I hope not...

Somehow there are just countless number of pizza places in Boston. After days of western food we walked around searching for some asian restaurants.
It's not difficult to find Chinese restaurants in town. But not too many of them are authentic. Or should I say, ediable.
This place called Beijing Cafe is right across from Boston U on Commonwealth Ave. It's totally a hole in the wall and we really gave it some extra thoughts before walking in.
The interior is stuffy and even smells a little. Service was not good, but we were not surprised. They are not unfriendly, just unattentive.
However, the food was alright. Not restaurant level, but more like "dai pai dong" style. So the food smells pretty good. With the plain white rice we surprised ourselves by finishing our own huge dishes.
This is really the only place that we've been to more than once in the previous week.
Do I recommend it? Well, it depends what you want. If a quick cheap meal would do, this is the place to go.

I wrote about we had a super sweet chocolate cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory and sworn we won't go there again. But we happened to be in that area again for our duck tour and hubby asked for a second chance.
So this time we got their original cheesecake. If this goes wrong, then nothing else would worth a try.

But then it happened to be very delicious! Not heavy like New York style cheesecake. In fact, a bit like a pudding with a very smooth touch. Liked it myself.
7.5/slice. Not cheap, but worth it!

Finally arrived in Boston 2 days ago.
This time we flew in via Vancouver and Toronto. Thanks to that we were able to spend some time with my family. I haven't seen my family for almost a year. My parents were so happy and it was great to see them. I even got a laptop computer from my brother so I don't have to be stucked with my husband's antique pc anymore!!! hahahahahaa It is always good to be the youngest in the family isn't it! heehee
I realized this time that carts at the airports are not always complimentary. We had to pay 2 bucks for each cart in Toronto and 3 bucks for one in the Logan Airport in Boston. Though you get a 25 cents reward for returning it to the line, it is still very expensive!
Weather here is a bit cold. It was quite pleasant when we got here on¡¡Saturday. Then it started raining yesterday and the temperature dropped a bit. East coast afterall.
Since it was Sunday yesterday we got to wander around town a bit. In order to kill jet lag I had to keep myself busy. But I still napped for about 2 hours in between. Went to Chinatown and downtown. It was really quiet. Dunno whether it's because of the baseball game yesterday but the downtown area was literally DEAD!
But I am glad that the Chinatown is pretty big here. And I could find pretty much whatever I need. Even better than Japan! heehee, now I can at least have BBQ duck whenever I want! (^^)
Monday today. Raining out. A bit chilly. We'll go visit hubby's school in a bit, then maybe have lunch in Chinatown if we have enough time. In the afternoon, we'll meet up with the real estate agent and start looking at some apartments.
Time to get busy! Stay tuned!
