The Red Sox won their title and today we finally got to see them in person!
The Red Sox Victory Parade took place at around noon today. From Fenway Park to Boston Common...etc then back to Fenway Park.
Since it was a bit too far to go downtown, we went to Fenway to send them off.
We arrived at around 10ish. The crowd was not too big then but it kept growing. Generally speaking the Rex Sox nation is quite polite so we didn't have a rough time waiting. Everybody was cheering and we got a chance to be on TV! Hubby's classmate made a Japanese sign and I believe we may have gotten some attention.
Unfortunately, we were unable to get a very close look of all of them when they came out. Since they were leaving from the opposite direction, we decided to climb the fence to the parking lot to get closer to the ducks.
So there we were right beside the duck which Dice-K was on and tried to capture a few pictures. We shouted but didn't get any attention from him.
I wanted to see Okajima too, but he was a bit further down and so we didn't get to do so. But I was happy that I got to see Youkilis and Mike Lowell!
I came home after to catch the rest of the show on TV and saw Papelbon doing his Irish dance. Looks like lots of fun but I didn't dare to get out there in that crowd! There must have been 100s of thousand of people there!
Hopefully we'll have another parade yet next year!

Remember I got some herb mix from King Arthur?
I wanted to use it soon so I made some French bread.
Personally I really like the shape of epi. But since I really don't want 2 of the same thing, I used half of the dough for 1 epi and the rest for a few rolls.
In order to add a twist to the rolls I sprinkled some cheese on top to add some flavor while with the epi I sprinkled a little bit of good salt.
Everything turned out perfect! The water spray made the epi nice and crusty, which I love!
They came out of the oven just in time for dinner and we made a few mini steak sandwiches with the rolls. Would have been even better to have some veggies in them, but they were still very delicious!

KING ARTHUR FLOUR ONLINE STORE
I used to shop a lot with CUOCA while I was in Japan. It is not particularly cheap but they carry a very fine collection of ingredients and supply for baking and cooking.
Since I moved to Boston, things are pretty much readily available at the bigger supermarkets so I didn't really bother look around too much.
But then I thought the prices were not too reasonable so I started to search for other sources. Then I found the online shop of King Arthur Flour!
It has a pretty good collection of what I want. Things like a bigger package of instant yeast that is much cheaper than the ones you get from the supermarket, sheet gelatin, milk powder (for baking bread), and even some herb bread mix!
I'm not sure whether I did save a lot of money shopping with them. But since I was able to get the more niche items that are not usually on the shelf, I was thrilled to have found it.
So I got a 5kg bag of bread flour, 2 packages of herb / olive bread mix, a pack of sheet gelatin (20 sheets), 1 pack of instant yeast, and 1 pound of milk powder for under $40 with shipping included. I'm a happy girl! =)

It's really been a while since I last made small rolls.
It's so easy and yet it's even easier to just leave it to the machine.
Since hubby doesn't really like plain bread in a loaf, these small buns would sell better cuz' he can just grap one and munch on it whenever he wants.
I added some dried cranberries and chopped walnut to make give the buns more flavor and texture. Which turned out just perfect!
Since the cranberries are sweetened, I soaked them in hot water to soften them a little bit while the water also washed away the sugar on them. The red made the buns very colorful and we've already finished eating half of them in one night.
Speaking of cranberry, I just found out MA is the biggest cranberry region in North America. And BC in Canada also produce a lot of cranberries. It's now the season for cranberry harvesting and we got some fresh ones the other day. But they are just too sour to be consumed fresh. So dried sweetened cranberries or sweetened cranberry juice are really the easier ways to consume these nutrious berries.

I really like docomodake.
It's so cute and I especially like the tv commercials with it dancing in his tiny little legs. hahaha
It's interesting to find out there is a
"how to cook docomodake art exhibition"
going on in New York. Kindda want to see it but the 4 hours bus ride is a bit too tiring for me.
Oh I miss my docomodake phone strap that I lost back in July...

Got some cottage cheese so I made a cheese cake the other day. Maybe it was because I sorta changed the recipe to adjust to what I had at home, it didn't turn out as smooth as I have expected. (Of course I didn't think it was that easy to achieve the cheesecake factory standard!)
This one was alright. Hubby still liked it a lot. Though he only gave it a 80 out of 100. hehee
Anyway, gotta try some more to figure out how to make it as creamy as the one we had at Cheesecake Factory.

Twix has been one of my favorite snacks since childhood. I especially like the texture of the shortbread inside. And how it goes so well with the caramel...yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!
I got myself 2 huge bags of mini twix the other day. Sent one to my brother in law and kept one for myself.
But it didn't last long cuz' hubby keeps munching on them. My husband loves anything sweet. And I have to give him a very scary look before he'd actually stop taking snacks out of the cupboard.
Now that they are all gone, I better go buy some more while the mini ones are still available for the Halloween season!

I'm so glad that we have a big oven at home. I've been using it so often these days.
It's just so easy to cook with an oven. Simply put everything in there and wait! Don't have to stand in the kitchen for a long time like when you cook Chinese or Japanese food. Particularly stew and stir fry that needs a lot of attention.
I still cook Chinese and Japanese though. But I have an alternative when I feel like something easier. Now I wonder why I didn't do that in Japan. My oven was primarily for baking sweets in Japan. hahahaha
Anyway, the picture shown is one of the more typical daily meal that I'd make here in Boston. Not very colorful, but we do usually have salad on the side...
This particular meal included:
roasted country style pork chop (this time I used balsamic vinegar in the marinade and it turned out very nice. Hubby loved it!)
Roasted Anise with Permasan Cheese (this I've been really addicted to lately!)
grill zucchini
rice
Since we're in Amercia, we're doing it American style. Everything on the same plate! Save hubby some work when washing the dishes!
I bet it'd look much better if we separated them into little dishes and garnish everything with some colorful herb and some mini tomatoes...but oh well...it's just a regular dinner at home afterall.

It's getting cold in Boston. This weather really makes me crave for hot pot dinners!! heehee
We went grocery shopping on Friday. First to Market Basket then to Reliable. Then all of a sudden I mentioned "hot pot" to hubby and he immediately invited his friends over.
Of course I loved the idea! We quickly went home and prepared with our limited ingredients that were good for a hot pot.
It was a fun night and hubby had a bit too much to drink "again"! The hot pot would have been perfect if I could add some shunkiku ("tong ho" in Chinese) to it. But still, it was a wonderful kick off! This "hot pot season" is gonna be good!
Glad that I brought the hot pot set and the gas stove along.

This Chinese fast food restaurant is listed as one of the most popular in the Japanese guide book we have. It was back in early June when we walked in and tried their dishes.
Turned out...it was the only time we were there.
I mean, the interior was clean but the food was really so so. The garlic spinish totally lacked the "smell" that we love in Chinese food. The jelly fish came with more pickles than anything else, and the salted fish with tofu and chicken rice was not flavorful enough.
All in all it was a disapointment but I must give it credit for their affortable prices. Given the size of their portion, I think it was pretty fair.
Maybe I was expecting too much at the beginning. I may come out again liking it more after so many bad restaurant experiences in Boston. heehee

It was a long weekend. On the 3rd consecutive day of having all 3 meals at home, I ran short in idea and my fridge was starting to empty out. I was puzzling what to make with lots of carrot, zucchini, 1 onion, 1 potato and some frozen shrimp...etc...
All the sudden I recalled I had some curry stock at home. That solved my problem immediately and in 30 minutes we had our grilled prawns curry with bacon for lunch!
Well I know the combination is kindda strange...with bacon and zucchini and all that...but hey, it tasted great!
A few hours later I faced the same old problem again...and this time I was even lazier! I just kept the curry base from lunch and put some chicken wings in it to make my own version of curry chicken!!
Yeah, curry chicken wings! Sounds more like a snack than dinner. But it tasted like Yeo's canned curry chicken (a brand sold in HK). Whether or not you think Yeo's was a good comparison, it was great!
But that would be enough curry for me for a while and it probably won't appear again on our dinning table for months.

The weather has been really unpredictable this past week. It was cold on Tuesday and I actually wore my quilted jacket. Then on Friday it was so hot I almost wanted to turn on the air conditioner. But just when I was feeling good about the return of the warmth, the temperature dropped once again back to 12 degree celcius.
Well, it was just a day or 2 of sudden global warming maybe. Fall is here afterall.
It started raining last night. And it's dark out today. But I wish winter could come later this year so I can minimize my time exposed to the cold.
It may sound a bit depressing to talk about rain and fall weather. But in fact, the city of Boston looks quite nice in the rain. It's not as miserable as it may seem in most big cities. The heritage buildings here match perfectly with the rain out. Looking somewhat romantic.
Speaking of Fall, I was told it's beautiful here or somewhere up north closer to Maine. It'd be nice to explore a bit of it when we have time.
And yes, time, what hubby really needs so that we can do something together.

Hubby's been saying he's gained weight. That is probably the result from eating too much icecream and junk food (or maybe even the lunches he's been having at school).
So I keep getting the message that "I don't want dinner...", "I don't need that much rice...", "you go ahead and eat without me..."...etc.
But the fact is, by the time I really bring out the dishes, he would finish them quickly and the next thing you know he'd be holding a bag of chips or the entire box of icecream in his hand!
Now...though I know it wouldn't really serve its purpose, I made him this healthy salad the other day.
The initial plan was a regular ceasar salad. But I kept adding things to it...tomato, grilled zucchini and anise, nectarine, cheese...etc.
Turned out to be very colorful and delicious!
Hubby gave me the same reply as usual "I don't need this much!"
But he finished it as usual...and again, I found him munching on his bag of chips right after...
